Big win! Scientists uncover a potential game-changer in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease
A team of scientists have recently become major players and game changers in the field of Alzheimer's research. The Technical University of Munich (TUM) researchers have adapted a very new and ingenious approach towards fighting the Alzheimer's di...

What are TUM researchers claiming about Alzheimer’s disease?
TUM researchers are drafting a revolutionary approach towards Alzheimer’s disease. According to reports, they are aiming to target the amyloid beta (Aβ) monomer, which is a protein fragment that is seen early on in Alzheimer's before the amyloid plaques begin forming in the brain, creating issues in memory cells and brain's receptive abilities. If the amyloid beta (Aβ) monomer is targeted, it could be done by using their reportedly secret weapon, which is a specially designed protein called an anticalin, also known as H1GA.

How does H1GA work?
H1GA works more like a molecular sponge that soaks up the harmful amyloid beta (Aβ) monomer, before it begins causing any damage in the human brain, and clump together. This experiment was tried and tested on a set of lab mice, who were genetically engineered to develop Alzheimer's-like symptoms and then injected with H1GA. The experiment went on to be more than satisfactory, and yielded some positive results. According to researchers, H1GA actually stopped the hyperactivity of neurons in he brain, which is what happens during the onset of early stages of the mind-robbing disease. Also Read : Asteroid Apophis moving toward Earth will be visible to the naked eye — Is it dangerous?
Is this close to finding a cure?
Unless proper test and trials are made, nothing can be said for sure but this actually shows a lot of development in terms of where humankind was a few years back around this disease.FAQs:
Is there any cure for Alzheimer's?As of now, there are no standard cures for Alzheimer's once it develops into its prime stages, but research around it is currently ongoing.
On which animals were the H1GA experiments performed?
Mice were used to perform the H1GA experiment, that was aimed at finding a cure for the mind-robbing, Alzheimer's disease.
