Big stand-down? US cyber command quietly paused operations against Russia just before Donald Trump’s explosive Oval Office clash with Zelensky

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has now ordered the Pentagon to stop the offensive cyber operations against Russia, according to one current official and two former officials, suggest reports.

The US cyber command has quietly shut down its operations in Russia as of now after Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth's instructions, which came in just before Donald Trump's explosive Oval Office feud with Ukrainian President Zelensky. These reports came in after some officials briefed on the matter issued statements about the same to The New York Times.

US cyber command's sudden hush-hush

The United States has suddenly changed track around its geopolitical relations after US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had a tough debate at the Oval Office recently. However, what's more interesting is the fact that right before this meeting, Pete Hegseth informed US cyber command to stop the ongoing cyberattacks against Russia as of now. The order of the same was handed over before Friday’s Oval Office blow-up between President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The measure appears to hold a motive of encouraging Russia to enter peace talks with the United States. The scope and duration of the order remain unclear as of now, and it is yet not understood what the extent of the cyberattacks have been up to now.
