President Joe Biden defended his performance in the first US Presidential Debate and said that he had nearly fell asleep after undertaking foreign trips. He said that he needed some rest before the debate but could not afford to take it. The 81-year-old president faces opposition from his own party members who have asked him to step down in view of his disastrous performance in the debate. What is not known is that the president had 13 days to take rest after his visit to Italy to attend the G-7 summit.

President’s schedule:

The president’s most recent foreign visits are to France and Italy. Speaking to donors, Biden attributed his exhaustion during the debate to these two foreign visits. He visited France to mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day from June 5- 9. He also visited Italy for the G-7 summit from June 12-14. It was reported that Biden’s first day in France had no engagements that were planned and he spent his day in his hotel room. He returned to Camp David and spent his time taking rest. He had more than 13 days to recover and recoup before the debate.
