Site of Biblical war fought 2,700 years ago discovered. Ruins of fortified military camp unravel mysteries
Archaeologist Stephen C. Compton discovered these ruins first in 2021 and aerial photographs were taken of a site known as Ammunition Hill, about one mile from Jerusalem’s borders.

Invasion of Jerusalem
After studying the remains of an archeologically important site, the researchers believe that they have found the Neo-Assyrian camp from which the failed invasion of Jerusalem was launched in 701 BC, reports the 'Daily Mail'. Archaeologist Stephen C. Compton discovered these ruins first in 2021 and aerial photographs were taken of a site known as Ammunition Hill, about one mile from Jerusalem’s borders. No supernatural intervention
The sites discovered by the archeologists do not suggest any supernatural intervention, but they provide glimpses of a fortified military camp. The ruins also indicate that Sennacherib’s army was in the area and was ready to sack Jerusalem 2,700 years ago. But Seige failed.Hebrew Bible: Seige of Jerusalem
However, it can not be denied that the siege at Lachish and Jerusalem has been mentioned frequently in the Hebrew Bible. The siege of the military camp supposedly ended when "the angel of the Lord went out and put to death a hundred and eighty-five thousand in the Assyrian camp". But ancient Assyrian inscriptions tell a different story. According to these inscriptions, Hezekiah, the king of Judah, paid much tribute to get the Assyrians to leave and lift the siege.According to 'LiveScience', the British Museum in London has a relief depicting the siege of Lachish. Stephen Compton compared this relief to photos from the early to mid-20th century which show Lachish. The archeologist identified a site north of Lachish with an oval shaped structure with walls. He pointed out that it may have been the Assyrians' camp.
