Berlin's Radisson Blu hotel AquaDom aquarium blast: After flood-like situation, police drop suspect angle over explosion

A massive aquarium in Berlin's famous hotel Radisson Blu containing gallons of water exploded on Friday creating a flood-like situation in the hotel. Following the explosion of the "AquaDom" aquarium on Friday, Berlin police said they are not looking for suspects and have warned the public about the fake tweet saying otherwise.

With the huge explosion, million litres of salt water was spilled inside the hotel killing hundreds of fish. Apart from the aquatic animals, two people were also reported to be badly injured by falling glass. However, now the building has been declared safe by the inspectors.

The police have not found any evidence that the 15.85m high (52 ft) aquarium blast was the result of a targeted attack. Additionally, the police have used social media to refute a tweet from a copycat account that requested assistance from the public in finding suspects connected to the incident.



The Berlin police tweeted that they "expressly dissociate" themselves from the phoney post and have asked people to stop spreading the fake news.

Meanwhile, a thorough investigation regarding the blast is ongoing. However, there has been speculation that a crack in the tank may have occurred due to the freezing temperature as it dropped as low as -6C overnight on Friday.

The grand aquarium was opened in 2003 December and also received the Guinness World Record for being the world's largest cylindrical aquarium. If reports are to be believed, then the building cost of AquaDom aquarium is said to be about €12.8 million (£11.2 million). The aquarium was recently renovated in 2020.
