Content: - As the world’s largest public film festival, the 75th edition of Berlinale presents an exciting lineup, highlighting fresh work from celebrated filmmakers like Richard Linklater, Michel Franco, and Hong Sang-soo. Linklater’s Blue Moon, a period drama centered on the final days of songwriter Lorenz Hart, will have its world premiere at the festival. This marks Linklater's fourth appearance in competition at Berlinale, where he won the Silver Bear for Best Director for Boyhood in 2014. The film features a cast including Ethan Hawke, Margaret Qualley, Bobby Cannavale, and Andrew Scott, and will be released worldwide by Sony Pictures Classics.
Hong Sang-soo, a Berlinale staple and four-time Silver Bear recipient, returns with What Does That Nature Say to You?. Norwegian director Dag Johan Haugerud will also be back with Dreams, the final part of his Sex, Love, Dreams trilogy. Other notable entries include Hot Milk, the directorial debut of Polish screenwriter Rebecca Lenkiewicz, starring Emma Mackey and Vicky Krieps, and Dreams by Michel Franco, featuring Jessica Chastain. Lucile Hadžihalilović's The Ice Tower, starring Marion Cotillard, Gaspar Noé, and August Diehl, is also among the highlights.
Festival Director Tuttle acknowledged Berlinale’s reputation as a political platform. “The Berlinale has always embraced its political nature,” he stated, emphasizing the festival's commitment to the art of cinema amid the global political climate. Last year’s festival was marked by controversy after award winners called for a ceasefire in Gaza, sparking backlash in Germany, where statements were criticized as antisemitic.
