In the sequel, Lydia is still haunted by Betelgeuse. Her teenage daughter, Astrid, played by Jenna Ortega, discovers a model of the town in the attic and accidentally opens a portal to the Afterlife. This leads to the return of Betelgeuse when his name is spoken three times, causing chaos.
