Bathroom emergency gone too far: Texas man rams car into Kroger for a bathroom break

A Texas grocery store was left with extensive damage after a man drove his car through its front entrance early Sunday morning. According to police, the man was upset because the doors were locked and said he needed to use the restroom.

The bizarre incident happened at a Kroger store in Rosenberg, Texas, around 4:28 a.m. on Sept. 27. The store was closed at the time, as per a report by The New York Post.

Why did the man drive into the store?

The Rosenberg Police Department said the driver intentionally accelerated into the Kroger entrance.

“On Sunday, September 27th, at approximately 0428, a known male individual intentionally accelerated into Kroger, causing extensive damage to the pharmacy entrance,” police said.

Investigators later determined that the man had wanted to use the restroom and became upset after finding the doors locked.

“Further investigation revealed the driver needed to use the restroom and was upset the doors were locked,” police said.

The car went through two automatic doors at the front of the store. Photos released by the Rosenberg Police Department showed broken glass scattered inside and outside the building.



The impact also badly bent the metal door frame.

The vehicle eventually stopped inside the store, next to a Halloween candy display.

Despite crashing through the entrance, the front of the car appeared to have suffered relatively little damage compared with the grocery store.

What happened to the driver?

The suspect is believed to be a 60-year-old man. Police have not publicly released his name.

According to the New York Post, he was arrested on a criminal mischief charge.

The incident quickly attracted attention online, with social media users making jokes about the unusual reason behind the crash.

One person pointed out that a 24-hour 7-Eleven was located nearby, writing, “There's literally a 24-hour 7-Eleven right around the corner from there.”

Another user joked, “Plenty of washroom time for him now. The place would be welcoming too.”

A third person wrote, “Good thing he was finally able to use the restroom in his 10'x10' cell with 15 other people watching.”

The comments followed images showing the extent of the damage at the closed Kroger.

The case began with a locked grocery store entrance but ended with a damaged storefront and an arrest.
