Cody “Beef” Franke, the beloved golf professional and rising star at Barstool Sports, has passed away at the age of 31 following a sudden medical issue over the weekend. The news was confirmed by Barstool Sports, sending shockwaves through the golf community and fans alike.

Franke was in the Dominican Republic attending a wedding when the incident occurred. His colleague, Dan “Big Cat” Katz, shared the heartbreaking news on The Yak, expressing his devastation: “It’s devastating. I don’t know what else to say.”

A former PGA professional, Franke had recently joined Barstool Sports' Fore Play podcast, quickly becoming a fan favorite with his approachable teaching style and infectious enthusiasm for the game. Barstool founder Dave Portnoy paid tribute to Franke on X, calling him “one of the nicest, most genuine people you’ll ever meet.” Portnoy added, “It’s hard to even process it right now. Just another cruel reminder that tomorrow is never promised. Live each day to its fullest.”

According to Hoodline website, Franke's journey to Barstool began in Lake Villa, Illinois. He grew up playing golf alongside his brother, Craig, who also became a PGA professional. After completing the PGA Golf Management program at Ferris State University, Franke spent several years honing his craft at Desert Willow Golf Resort in Southern California. In 2023, he returned to the Midwest as the Head Golf Professional at Thornberry Creek at Oneida near Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Franke was remembered for his kindness and humility. Colleagues and fans alike recalled his endearing habit of removing his hat when meeting someone, a gesture that exemplified his respect and class. Barstool's Fore Play team honored him with the message, “We’ll be removing our hats for Cody today and every day. Rest in peace to the classiest man we knew.”
