Barack Obama may have hurt Kamala Harris's chances in these swing states due to this reason

Speaking recently at a campaign stop in Pennsylvania, Obama worded a message to Black men to view this election in a brighter light by stating that sexism was the reason why they do not vote for Kamala Harris.

Former President Barack Obama's recent comments may hurt the increasing support for Democratic Presidential nominee Kamala Harris among voters in swing states such as Pennsylvania and Wisconsin in the US Election 2024. According to an analysis of Impact Social, the web has a nasty reaction to former President Obama's speech where he damned the Black male electorate for failing to back Harris. As the election nears, Democrats had hoped the visit would energize Harris's ground game; so far, however, the web has been resolutely negative. For Harris, who needs to win all these states to win, that could get very serious, as per a report.

Negative Online Response

Following the speech by Obama in Pittsburgh, 17 per cent of comments through social media analyses were positive, 33 per cent negative, and 50 per cent neutral. Most Black voters described his comments as irritating and condescending. Obama further referred to the enthusiasm marking Harris's campaign compared to that of his time; the remarks could be a mere way of referring to sexism as a possible obstacle for Black male voters, NewsWeek reported.

Impact Social's analysis underscores a unique discontent with Obama's reframing. Comments that self-identified as reacting to Obama constituted 38% of the comments overall. Some mourned that his strategy would ultimately hurt the Harris campaign as pundits attacked him as "disrespectful." He was described speaking in the same vein as "you ain't black" by Biden and other such remarks made during earlier elections.

The NAACP responded to those comments by Obama by pointing out that Black men are the lifeblood of the voting bloc. According to them, it is through giving massive policy solutions that would be translated to a victory of their support. "Practical policies on issues facing the community will give her the boost she needs regarding Harris's standing among Black voters," elaborated the organization's Senior Vice President.
