BAFTA fans complained that the program on Sunday did not adequately represent the diversity of the nominees on Twitter, using the hashtag #BAFTASsowhite.

BAFTA or the British Academy of Film and Television Arts came under fire from a section of viewers who have claimed that the majority of the winners of BAFTA awards 2023 were 'white'. All four of the winners in the acting categories were white, including Best Actor Austin Butler for 'Elvis' and Best Actress Cate Blanchett for the film 'Tár', according to a Daily Mirror report.

The Malaysian artist Michelle Yeoh, who was nominated for leading actress in "Everything Everywhere All At Once", was among the non-white actresses who many viewers felt were neglected. A section of netizens alleged that non-white actors were 'overlooked'.

Several twitter users used "#BAFTASsowhite" to voice their disagreement over the choice of the jury of the BAFTA awards 2023.

The association's president, Prince William, responded to the outcry. He said that this was not for the first time that there are talks of taking further steps to guarantee diversity in the industry throughout the awards process, as per the Daily Mirror report.
