The protagonist has to face Phoenix King Ozai instead. But in the end, firebenders Jeong Jeong and Iroh used their enhanced abilities to liberate the Earth Kingdom city of Ba Sing Sae from the Fire Nation.

Showrunner Albert Kim talked about the substantial changes made to Sozin's Comet. 'Avatar: The Last Airbender' doesn't use Sozin's Comet as a deadline for Aang to master all four elements.
