Avatar 2 box office collection worldwide: James Cameron's 'Avatar: The Way Of Water' jumps to 9th position in all-time list

With Avatar’s sequel, ‘Avatar: The Way Of Water’, James Cameron has raised the bar once again. "Avatar: The Way Of Water" or Avatar 2 has managed to climb up to the ninth position in all time global charts, with Thursday’s grosses included. It has surpassed Marvel’s The Avengers’ record of $1.521 billion with a collection of around $1.547 billion globally in 23 days of release.

The Avatar sequel by 20th Century Fox and Disney continues to be the pandemic era's 2nd international box office picture, earning $1.075 billion through Thursday. It is closing in on the previous three-year No. 1 title, Spider-Man: No Way Home ($1.107b), and will soon pass The Lion King's pre-pandemic overseas gross of $1.118b.




The offshore take on Thursday was $23.4 million in 52 markets, a 51 per cent down from the previous Thursday.

Among the list of Top 10 markets through Thursday, China tops the list with $171.5m, followed by France’s $97m, Germany’s 79.5m. While China, France and Germany are in the top three, the rest in top 10 include Korea, UK, India, Australia, Mexico, Italy and Spain.

If "Avatar: The Way Of Water" joins the prestigious $2 billion club, director James Cameron will be responsible for three of the six highest-grossing films in history, including Avatar and Titanic.

So far, only five films have managed to join the coveted $2 billion club. These movies are - Avatar ($2,922,917,914), Avengers: Endgame ($2,797,501,328), Titanic ($2,201,647,264), Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens ($2,069,521,700), Avengers: Infinity War($2,048,359,754).
