Australian Tennis star Nick Kyrgios admits assaulting ex-girlfriend but avoids conviction
Nick Kyrgios, an Australian tennis star, admitted assaulting ex-girlfriend after his lawyers.

The court was informed that Kyrgios pushed Chiara Passari during a row in Canberra in 2021.
The magistrate referred to the incident as a single act of stupidity or frustration" when sparing him with a criminal record. After the ruling, he also released a statement saying he was grateful to the court for dismissing the charges without conviction.
Chiara Passari reported the incident to the police but did not make a formal complaint after which the couple reconciled and resumed a relationship. She made a formal complaint in December 2021 after they broke up.
Kyrgios' lawyer argued his client tried to call an Uber to de-escalate the fight and had repeatedly tried to "lawfully" move Passari away from the car. In these circumstances out of frustration my client reacted and the offense occurred," Michael Kukulies-Smith said.
Psychologist Sam Borenstein also told the court that his mental illness was "recurrent" and he had suffered from thoughts of self-harm - but his condition had been better and improving.
Magistrate Beth Campbell said while sentencing Kyrgios that he is a young man trying to extricate himself from a heightened emotional situation.
The tennis player arrived at the court on crutches following recent knee surgery which forced him to withdraw from the Australian Open last month.
