Austin Butler gets emotional during 'Saturday Night Live' monologue honoring late mother

Austin Butler claimed that having fun with her helped him break out of his cocoon and fuel his dream to pursue a career in acting. He played Elvis Presley in Baz Luhrmann's famous biopic, "Elvis." Butler first appeared as a child actor on Nickelodeon and Disney Channel programs. He became emotional as he reflected on his mother and the pride it would have given her to see him on the SNL stage. All of his comic personas and movements are in honour of his mother. Butler also jokingly claimed that because of his upbringing in Anaheim, California, he has "the Southern accent" and that Elvis Presley is always in his voice.


Butler also stated that despite the holiday show almost being cancelled due to COVID last year, the show developed a foolproof plan to make sure that didn't happen again. Butler also discussed how his sister Ashley, who was present for her birthday, thought he was "weird" for growing up homeschooled. NBC announced earlier that the December 17 episode would be the last for recurring actor Cecily Strong. The show is also helmed by actors Keenan Thompson and Mikey Day.
