ASTS stock: AST SpaceMobile’s (ASTS) stock surged more than 20% on Wednesday after the Texas-based company announced a major partnership with Verizon to bring space-based cellular service to the United States starting next year, as per a report.

AST SpaceMobile and Verizon Expand Partnership for Space-Based Cellular Service

The deal, which expands on a collaboration first revealed last year, will allow Verizon customers to connect directly to cell service from space “when needed,” according to AST’s statement.

The move marks a significant step forward in the race to provide global mobile coverage through satellite technology and it sent AST’s already high-flying stock soaring once again, as per a report.

ASTS Stock Has Risen Over 250% in 2025

Before the announcement, AST SpaceMobile shares were already up more than 250% for the year, reflecting growing investor excitement over its satellite broadband ambitions. Verizon stock also ticked up slightly, rising about 0.7%, as reported by CNBC.

CEO Abel Avellan Highlights Vision for Nationwide Coverage

Abel Avellan, founder and CEO of AST SpaceMobile, said in a press release that, “Through our definitive commercial agreement with Verizon, we are working to deliver space-based cellular broadband coverage from space across the continental United States,” as quoted by CNBC.

Verizon to Extend Coverage Across Remote US Regions

While financial details of the deal were not disclosed, Avellan said it will allow Verizon to extend its 850 MHz premium low-band spectrum into remote areas across the country, offering a major coverage boost for customers in the United States, as per the CNBC report.

AST SpaceMobile’s Technology Connects Directly to Standard Smartphones

The announcement follows successful tests of AST’s satellite network, which the company says is the world’s first and only space-based cellular system designed to connect directly with standard mobile phones, according to the report.

AST SpaceMobile said that its technology will support both commercial and government users, positioning it as a key player in the emerging market for satellite-powered mobile connectivity, as per the CNBC report.
