Astros survive Red Sox rally to secure 7-6 victory

Ramón Urías went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer, and Chas McCormick added his first long ball of the season as the Houston Astros built an early cushion and held off the Boston Red Sox for a 7-6 win on Monday night.

Carlos Correa, in his first home game since returning to Houston in a blockbuster trade from the Twins, contributed an RBI single to help snap the Astros’ skid after being swept in Boston earlier this month.




Cristian Javier (1-0) impressed in his first start in over 14 months following Tommy John surgery, rebounding from a two-run first inning to allow just one hit over his final four frames. McCormick’s two-run blast in the fourth and Urías’ two-run shot in the fifth stretched Houston’s lead to 7-2.


Boston rallied with four runs in the seventh, fueled by homers from Abraham Toro and Roman Anthony, trimming the deficit to one. Alex Bregman, playing his first game in Houston since leaving in the offseason, had a two-run homer in the first and a single in the seventh, but the comeback fell short.


In the ninth, Connor Wong doubled off Enyel De Los Santos with two outs, prompting Bennett Sousa to enter and strike out Anthony for his fourth save. Garrett Crochet (13-5) took his first loss since May 26, surrendering five runs on seven hits in just four innings.

Urías, acquired from Baltimore at the trade deadline, finished a triple shy of the cycle, matching his season high in hits.
