Renowned Hollywood actor Ashton Kutcher said in an interview that he was diagnosed with weird and rare Vasculitis which affected and knocked out his vision, hearing and equilibrium. The actor could not walk, hear, or speak after being diagnosed with Vasculitis nearly two years ago.

He added that this is something one doesn't appreciate until it is gone. He added that he didn't know if he would ever hear or walk again.

According to experts, Vasculitis is a blood vessel inflammation. Vasculitis can affect any blood vessel and the aorta, the primary blood vessel that exits the heart.

When blood vessels are more inflamed, they could deteriorate and stretch in size, leading to aneurysms. These same vessels could also become so thin that they disrupt, likely resulting in tissue bleeding.

Vasculitis can induce the walls of blood vessels to swell up, reducing the circumference of the vessel's passageway. When blood flow is decreased or stalled in a vessel with Vasculitis, the tissues that carry blood from that vessel get injured and begin to die.

There are different variations of Vasculitis, including Buerger's disease, Behçet's disease, Churg-Strauss syndrome, Giant cell arteritis, Cryoglobulinemia, Granulomatosis with polyangiitis, Kawasaki disease, Henoch-Schonlein purpura, Takayasu's arteritis.

Most varieties of Vasculitis are uncommon. While anyone can be affected by Vasculitis, the major aspects may raise the likelihood of certain disorders:
  • Age
  • Family history
  • Lifestyle choices, such as the use of cocaine or tobacco
  • Medications
  • Infections
  • Immune disorders
  • Gender

Most types of Vasculitis are highly curable if caught early enough before significant organ damage occurs. More research into all types of Vasculitis is required. A greater understanding of these diseases will result in more effective treatments and, eventually, cures.
