The White House is reportedly increasing pressure on the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to reportedly ramp up arrests and deportations to fulfill US President Donald Trump's promise of deporting millions of undocumented immigrants, reported Politico.

Removal of top ICE officials

According to Politico, this push has now led to the removal of two top ICE officials named Russell Hott and Peter Berg from their respective positions in the enforcement division. Adding onto that, Russel Hott will return to the agency's Washington field office and Peter Berg will now go back to St. Paul located in Minnesota.

Todd Lyons who was formerly in charge of the Boston office of the agency will now actually take over as acting head of ICE Enforcement and Removal operations.

ICE needs a culture of accountability

A DHS spokesperson named Tricia McLaughlin reportedly stated that that ‘ICE needs a culture of accountability’ and that the leadership of the agency will strictly ensure it delivers results. The shake up follows severe frustration from the US President and also top immigration officials regarding the current pace of arrests and deportations as well as the release of some migrants due to limited detention capacity.

While ICE has now increased the amount of arrests recently, at the same time, the administration faces challenges in scaling up efforts to meet the US President's mass deportations promise which eventually requires funding, time and resources, asserted Politico.

Border Czar Tom Homan reportedly noted that interior enforcement is significantly higher than the previous year but expressed dissatisfaction while stating the need to arrest more criminal aliens. The US President Donald Trump administration has been publicizing ICE enforcement actions through media channels while including social media and also showcasing images of arrested migrant, noted Politico.
