As deadline nears, 20,000 federal workers have taken Donald Trump's buyout offer

Recent reports are revealing something extremely surprising that approximately 20,000 federal workers have taken up the buyout offer of US President Donald Trump while the deadline is reportedly coming closer with passing days.

US President Donald Trump
At least 20,000 federal employees have accepted US President Donald Trump's buyout offer which reportedly allows them to resign while receiving eight months of pay and benefits, reported USA Today.

According to USA Today, this figure now actually represents about 1% of the over 2 million federal workers while falling short of the administration's goal of 5% to 10% participation. The buyout initiative which is a huge part of a broader effort led by Tesla CEO Elon Musk through the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) eventually aims to significantly reduce the size of the federal workforce.

The offer was communicated via a mass email titled ‘Fork in the Road’ which caused extreme confusion among the employees regarding their work obligations if they accepted the buyout, asserted USA Today. A follow-up email though clarified that those who accept the ‘deferred resignation’ would not be really required to work during this period and could seek other employment while still receiving pay.

Democratic lawmakers have extremely cautioned the federal employees against accepting the offer while arguing that US President Donald Trump cannot be trusted, noted USA Today. Numerous unions representing the federal workers have filed a lawsuit to block the buyout plan while eventually claiming it is extremely arbitrary and violates the federal law.
