Arsenal signs Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace; transfer fee still under wraps
Eze, 27, who began his football journey in Arsenal’s youth academy, joined Palace from QPR in 2020 for £17 million and has since made 169 appearances, scoring 40 goals. He has been capped 12 times by England, scoring once. Sources indicate that personal terms are close to being finalized, and Eze is expected to play for Palace in their UEFA Europa Conference League playoff match against Fredrikstad before completing a medical at Arsenal.
The transfer follows an injury to Arsenal midfielder Kai Havertz, which has prompted Mikel Arteta’s side to accelerate their pursuit of attacking reinforcements. While Eze is not a direct replacement for Havertz, his creative versatility is expected to provide Arsenal with greater tactical flexibility, allowing players like Leandro Trossard and Mikel Merino to cover the central attacking role when needed.
This signing marks Arsenal’s seventh of the summer under sporting director Andrea Berta. Earlier arrivals include goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, defender Cristhian Mosquera, midfielders Martin Zubimendi and Christian Nørgaard, winger Noni Madueke, and striker Viktor Gyökeres. Analysts suggest Eze’s addition strengthens Arsenal’s left-sided attacking options, complementing existing threats from Bukayo Saka and Martin Ødegaard while enhancing the team’s overall creativity in the final third.
For Arsenal supporters, Eze’s return carries an emotional resonance. A boyhood Gunners fan, he previously trained in the club’s academy and is seen as a symbolic homecoming as well as a strategic signing to bolster a title-challenging squad.
Arsenal now faces the task of completing the formalities of the transfer before integrating Eze into Arteta’s squad, which could be decisive in shaping the club’s attacking dynamics for the 2025-26 Premier League season.
