Armenia said 49 of its soldiers have died along the border with Azerbaijan in renewed fighting after decades. The US and Russia have both come out strongly about showing restraint to the adversaries Armenia and Azerbaijan. Conflicts had come to a halt after decades of fighting between both neighbours but the peace just got shattered with both blaming each other about the escalation yesterday along the border.

The region of Nagorno-Karabakh has always been on the boil with Azerbaijan reclaiming the territory in fighting in 2020. The region has a high Armenian population although for centuries the area belonged to Azerbaijan.

This time round Armenia claims that due to continued provocation by Azerbaijan the border towns of Kapan, Jermuk and Goris have come under very heavy shelling since early morning on Tuesday. Armenia said it was giving the Azeris a fitting reply for instigating the current conflict.

Azerbaijan has in the meantime claimed that they were being shelled for no apparent reason.

The prime minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan says that Azerbaijan doesn't want to negotiate regarding Nagorno-Karabakh where a large number of Armenians reside. Instead of talking the Azerbaijan leadership was instigating hostilities and bombarding Armenian towns according to Pashinyan.

With reports coming in from Russian news agencies is that the bombarding has come down in many towns but still continue in one or two fronts by Azerbaijan according to Pashinyan's speech in parliament.

Azerbaijan has claimed that Armenian military had been conducting espionage activities along the border with Azerbaijan and it is the Armenians who began the attack. The military installations had come under heavy fire and serial bombardment continues. The media in Azerbaijan says that an urgent ceasefire effected early Tuesday was broken almost within a few moments of the brokered peace.

“It hurts. We really need to look into that for it to not happen again. I don’t really find the right words to describe, obviously it is very disappointing," Leclerc said.

Verstappen had passed Pérez shortly before Leclerc's failure and the reigning F1 champion cruised to his fifth win in seven races. Red Bull has won five consecutive races, and although Leclerc has two wins this year, his last victory was at Australia in early April and his last podium was at Miami in early May.

“That’s racing. It happened to me, it happened to many people in the past. Unfortunately, it’s happening to Charles,” Verstappen said when asked if he had any sympathy for his rival’s difficulties.

“If I would be in the same situation, I would also be disappointed. I think that’s very normal. But it’s about how you come out of it, you always look at how to improve things. That’s what we did as well in the beginning of the season. And you learn from it. You don’t like it, you’re angry, but we turn it around.”

Antony Blinken of the USA has insisted that there is no chance of conflict bringing a lasting solution and that both sides have to show restraint.
Russia too insisted that both sides have to bring a solution through discussion. Diplomacy alone is the solution for lasting peace.

Russia had earlier in 2020 sent its peacekeeping force to bring an end to conflict at that time. Russia maintains several military bases in Armenia and said that in Nagorno-Karabakh Azerbaijan had captured large swathes of territory from its neighbour.

Moscow plays the role of a big brother to Armenia and has a Collective Security Treaty Organisation in place from Tuesday to help Yerevan. On the other hand Turkey backs Azeris.

Russia and Armenia spoke about the situation prevailing in the border region and promised to help each other to retain peace. Turkey's defence minister Mevlit Cavusoglu spoke to the defence minister of Azerbaijan and has called on Armenia to cease provacating an attack Azerbaijan.

In the meantime the European Union through Charles Michel requested Armenia to end the fighting while meeting Pashinyan. Michel also met the Azeri President Ilham Aliyev a month back and hoped for a peaceful resolution between the two warring countries and an exclusive peace treaty for Nagorno-Karabakh.
