A brief respite before storms return

After a turbulent weekend of rain and thunderstorms across Arkansas, the atmosphere is set to stabilize temporarily overnight. By Monday morning, May 18, most parts of the state will wake to dry skies and relatively calm conditions. But this quiet spell is expected to end quickly, with severe weather forecasted to roll in late Monday afternoon and into the evening.

The Arkansas Storm Team has issued an Alert Day for Monday in anticipation of the volatile weather system. Although scattered showers may appear earlier in the day, meteorologists warn that the late afternoon and evening hours will be the most active, especially across western, northwestern, and northern Arkansas.

Severe weather threat: what to expect

Monday evening’s system carries the potential for damaging winds, large hail, and a low-end tornado threat, making it crucial for Arkansans to stay weather-aware. These risks are particularly elevated in areas north and west of Little Rock, where storm cells are projected to be strongest.

By Tuesday morning, the line of storms is expected to move east and weaken, ushering in a welcome pattern of cooler, calmer weather for the rest of the week. From Wednesday through Friday, residents can look forward to more comfortable conditions, with reduced humidity and sunshine returning to the forecast.

The Arkansas Storm Team urges residents to remain alert, especially during late-day commutes and evening hours Monday. Continue following updates through local news channels and weather apps to stay ahead of any changes.
