Arizona Governor elections: Katie Hobbs, Kari Lake make big promises about taxes

On Wednesday night, Democrat Katie Hobbs stated that she has no plans to increase taxes in the state if elected governor of Arizona. It's the first time Hobbs has taken an interest in the position. However, she recognized it's improbable even if she wanted to because raising taxes in Arizona requires a two-thirds majority vote, an unlikely success in the closely split state Legislature.

However, Hobbs asserted that the state had a favorable economic climate, including its tax system, to business executives at an Arizona Chamber of Commerce gubernatorial event.

Additionally, she attributed that favorable atmosphere to Arizona's restored national standing and cautioned that electing her rival, Republican Kari Lake, would reverse those advantages.




This election ultimately comes down to sanity versus chaos, not Democrats or Republicans, according to Hobbs. She also stated that she has the political experience to be taken seriously as governor.

Lake downplayed her lack of experience and represented herself as one of the most well-known newcomers to politics.

Lake stated that Reagan lacked that political and administrative expertise. Neither did President Trump. However, these people came up with excellent policies. The people, according to Lake, are prepared for some strangers.

If elected, Lake committed to decreasing taxes yearly for the first four years and promised to provide a plan outlining how she would do so shortly.

And she admonished again that if left in Hobbs' hands, Arizona risked resembling California. When talking about the significant concerns she'd want to address as governors, such as energy, water, and homelessness, Lake repeatedly references California.

According to Lake, the best thing the government could do for Arizona's economic climate is step aside and concentrate on the quality of life concerns.

Lake addressed that people want secure borders and safe streets. People will then swarm here, said Lake.
