Aria Mia Loberti, a newcomer to the world of acting, secured a breakthrough role in Netflix's upcoming adaptation of Anthony Doerr's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, "All the Light We Cannot See." Her selection for the lead role, Marie-Laure LeBlanc, resonates deeply, as Loberti shares a similar life experience of being blind, akin to her character.

Director Shawn Levy, renowned for his work on "Stranger Things," emphasised the authenticity Loberti brought to the character, recognizing the importance of casting an individual who could authentically convey Marie-Laure's experiences. The series, set against the backdrop of World War II, portrays the resilience of its characters, including Loberti's Marie-Laure, navigating the challenges of war while embracing the power of kindness and determination.

During the interview, Loberti expressed her gratitude for the opportunity and her commitment to bringing a genuine portrayal of her lived experience to the screen. She shared her initial doubts about the representation of disabled individuals in media but highlighted the importance of creating equal opportunities for all actors. Loberti's ease on set was evident, as she navigated her scenes with the assistance of her service dog, Ingrid, and incorporated her personal experiences to lend authenticity to her performance.

In shaping the portrayal of the character, the production team, including Netflix consultant Joe Strechay, worked to ensure an accurate and respectful representation of low-vision and blind individuals. Strechay's input provided valuable insight into the nuances of blind experiences, allowing for a more nuanced and realistic portrayal.

Director Shawn Levy acknowledged the learning curve that came with working with Loberti, highlighting the need for greater understanding and representation of individuals with disabilities. He emphasized the importance of authentic storytelling and the opportunity to broaden perspectives and deepen empathy.

The adaptation of "All the Light We Cannot See" stands as a testament to the power of representation and the impact of diverse storytelling in the world of entertainment. Loberti's dedication to her role serves as an inspiration, as she not only embodies the character of Marie-Laure but also becomes an advocate for greater inclusivity and understanding in the industry.
