Are Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds' losing the 'image war' against Justin Baldoni? Here's what an expert is saying

Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, and Justin Baldoni's legal dispute over It Ends With Us has escalated into a high-stakes public relations battle.

Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively's are reportedly losing "image war" against Justin Baldoni. In a complaint filed with the California Civil Rights Department, Blake Lively was thought to be addressing concerns regarding her "It Ends With Us" director and co-star, Justin Baldoni.

However, the issues have since escalated into numerous lawsuits between the actors and finger-pointing on both sides, as quoted in a report by Fox News.

With over a year until the formal trial, experts think the court of public opinion has a significant impact on the cases, with poorly handled public relations intertwined throughout.

Former White House spokesperson and communications advisor Alexandra LaManna told Fox News Digital, "Blake and Ryan are losing the image war right now, but there are no real winners here."

"Only when you have a strong case, complete control of the narrative, and strong public support does the reputational risk of going to court pay off. That doesn't seem to be the case here.

LaManna continued, "It is impossible to overlook the serious sexual harassment claims made in Blake's initial lawsuit. It's possible that she and Ryan decided that speaking up was worth the reputational consequences. However, this is a he-said-she-said that is becoming more messy every day, making it more difficult for Blake and Ryan to appear clean, as quoted in a report by Fox News.

"Winning over the public is a different matter than defending a case. Their only choice, if they are unable to accomplish that, might be to take a backseat and wait for people to forget."

What do experts say about their PR strategy?

Reputation management expert Ryan McCormick believes that this case has harmed Blake's reputation regardless of her 100% correctness. He believes that negative news on a consistent basis re-enforces negative perception and that all parties should have taken a key lesson from the mafia and had a sit-down.

Lyric Mandell, Co-Founder of Tutti Agency and the Director of Media and Public Relations at MOXY Company, believes that a different approach toward handling Lively's alleged complaint could have netted different results.

He suggests that Lively and Reynolds might have benefited from a quieter, more calculated approach, addressing the issues earlier before tensions and theories got to this point. By waiting until things had already started unfolding, they may have lost control of the narrative and made the situation more complicated than necessary.
