This interruption occurred due to Disney's strategic move to secure broader distribution for its ad-supported Disney+ service, which led to certain concessions on the linear television front. Spectrum, the second-largest cable operator in the United States with 14.7 million subscribers, dropped eight cable networks, including FXX, FXM, Freeform, Disney Junior, Disney XD, and Nat Geo Wild. Each of these networks experienced a decrease of nearly 20 percent in their audience reach as a result.

The dispute between media heavyweight Disney and cable provider Charter Communications was over television distribution fees, as per Reuters report.
