Apple rolls out purchase migration: Move apps, music and other content you buy to a single account now

Apple has introduced a game-changing feature that lets users transfer their purchased content — including music, films, apps and other content — between accounts.

This update offers greater flexibility, especially for those managing multiple Apple IDs for different purposes, according to media reports citing Apple's official support document.

Apple’s purchase migration

Previously, Apple only allowed purchase migration through Family Sharing, which enabled members of a family group to access each other's premium content. But the new feature is designed for users who maintain multiple accounts for media purchases and iCloud services.


Reportedly, users had been requesting the ability to transfer purchases between accounts for years, without having to create a new account or rely on Family Sharing. Apple has now made this possible, though strict criteria and regional restrictions still apply.

Eligibility and restrictions

According to a report in Apple Insider, users in the UK, India and the EU will not be able to use Apple’s purchase migration option. Both accounts must be registered in the same country or region, have two-factor authentication enabled and use valid payment methods to be eligible for purchase transfers.

Family sharing exclusion

Additionally, purchases made through accounts that have been discontinued, deleted, locked or disabled cannot be transferred. To qualify, users must have used their primary account for at least one download or purchase.

How to migrate purchases between Apple accounts

The purchase migration process is straightforward and can be completed using an iPhone or iPad:

Open the Settings app and tap on your Apple Account name.

Select Purchases and Media.

Scroll down and choose Migrate Purchases.

Follow the on-screen instructions to review account details and complete the process.

Once the migration is complete, Apple will send a confirmation email to both accounts. The secondary account will no longer be available for purchases, so users should sign out of it.
