Apple Event: How to watch and what to expect from the upcoming event

A month after unveiling its new iPhone 15 series, Apple will hold its second Apple event of the season today on October 30.

Apple Event announced by Apple earlier this week an unexpected October event. The online-only event will begin on Monday at 8:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. PT, an unusually late start time for Apple keynotes. According to some observers, the decision to host the event in the evening may highlight the fact that this will not be one of Apple's major announcements of the year.

The event's motto — "scary fast" — is an obvious reference to the upcoming release of its next-generation silicon processor, M3. The tech company is likely to unveil new iMac machines with the new powerful CPU, which should improve Mac sales.

What to Expect from the Apple Event:

14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro

The 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models were updated with M2 Pro and M2 Max chips in January 2023, so it is early for an update, but Apple refreshing a Mac twice in a single year is not unheard of. Apple is likely to replace the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with its next-generation M3 Pro and M3 Max chips, which will be released less than a year after the M2 Pro and M2 Max chips were introduced.

According to a new DigiTimes rumor, the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models may receive more power-efficient miniLED panels, so display performance may be improved as well.

iMac

Apple hasn't updated the 24-inch iMac since 2021, and it still uses the M1 processor. The iMac is expected to be updated at Apple's event, and the new model will employ the M3 chip, which will also be found in the 13-inch MacBook Pro. Moving from M1 to M3 improves both CPU and GPU performance, but especially GPU performance. Because the M3 processor enables more RAM, we may see more total memory accessible with an upgrade, as well as a larger-capacity SSD.

USB-C Accessories

The Lightning port is scheduled to be removed from various Mac accessories, including the Magic Mouse, Magic Trackpad, and Magic Keyboard. As part of Apple's shift to USB-C across its entire product lineup, these products will use a USB-C port instead of a Lightning port.

Other Possibilities

Aside from the iMac and new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models, no other speculations indicate that additional devices will be updated.
