Apple drops the axe on five devices millions still use, including a classic iPhone
Apple is once again preparing to phase out five more much-loved gadgets, officially placing them into its obsolete category. The update includes a widely used iPhone model as well as a notable iPad. Once this occurs, the company and its authorized service centers will no longer provide repairs or replacement parts, leaving users with less support choices. The update is part of Apple’s regular product cycle, but it remains significant for anyone holding on to aging gadgets. As older models lose compatibility and security updates, several users may now experience the choice between seeking third-party repairs or finally upgrading to a newer, fully supported device.

What Are Apple’s End-of-Life Labels?

Apple uses two significant categories to handle aging products: vintage and obsolete. A gadget becomes vintage once Apple has stopped selling it over five years but fewer than seven. During this phase, users may still secure repairs through authorized service centers, though availability isn’t assured in regard to decreasing spare parts.

The next and final stage is obsolete, activated once Apple has paused distribution of the product for more than seven years. At that point, support centers can no longer provide any kind of repairs.

With nearly five decades in business, Apple naturally has a long list of discontinued gadgets. The recent additions are the first-ever iPhone SE, originally introduced in 2016. This model marked the starting of Apple’s more affordable iPhone series, making it a fan favorite at the time.

Another significant device hitting the obsolete category is the iPad Pro 12.9-inch (second generation) from 2017, once celebrated for its performance and large display.
