Apple has quietly reshaped its product lineup following the launch of its newest iPhone, and the changes are significant. The tech giant has removed a number of familiar devices from its official store as it rolls out updated versions of its hardware.

In total, 15 Apple gadgets have now been discontinued. Some of the devices were released only months ago, while others had been on sale for years. The move reflects Apple’s ongoing strategy of replacing older hardware with newer models powered by updated chips and technology.

Why did Apple discontinue these devices?

Apple regularly updates its product lineup whenever new hardware is introduced, and the latest refresh is one of the largest in recent years.

The changes arrived alongside the launch of the newest iPhone. As Apple introduced updated devices powered by newer chips, several existing models were quietly removed from sale.

For example, the iPhone 16e has now been replaced by the newer iPhone 17e as Apple updates its smartphone lineup, as per a report by The US Sun.

Similarly, the M3-powered iPad Air models have been replaced by updated versions that now run on Apple’s newer M4 chip.

The MacBook Air lineup has also been refreshed. Earlier M4 versions of the laptop have been superseded by the latest M5 MacBook Air models.

One particularly surprising removal is the 13-inch MacBook Pro with the M5 chip and 512GB storage.

That model only launched in October, meaning it remained available for less than six months before Apple dropped it from the lineup. Apple’s new base configuration now starts with the 1TB version, which comes at a higher price, as per a report by The US Sun.

What happens to discontinued Apple products now?

When Apple discontinues a device, it does not mean the product stops working or becomes unsupported.

Instead, the change simply means the device will no longer be sold through Apple’s official retail stores or online shop.

Customers who already own the gadgets will continue to receive software updates, technical support and repair services for years to come.

For Apple, the decision is part of its normal product cycle, where older models gradually make way for the latest hardware as the company pushes forward with newer technology.
