After the major Microsoft IT outage, there was a short fortnight break in terms of IT hazards, and now the pace has again picked up with a global IT data breach that has reportedly seen a leak of private data of around 3 billion people across the globe, raising concerns about the increasing issues around data privacy and security.

Second major IT attack after Microsoft outage

This is being considered one of the biggest attack on the cyber infrastructure, as more than 3 billion people have been affected due to this data breach. According to The Mirror US report, a database with the name 'National Public Data', was released on dark web forums this year, which was being attempted to sell at a whopping $3.5 million. Meanwhile, the reason and form of this major data attack on the National Public Data servers is still unknown as the authorities are yet to reveal the cause of the breach.

Meanwhile, a lawsuit was filed in this regard, that talked about this data breach affecting billions, and the petitioner is of the opinion that National Public Data has been irresponsible in terms of data security and safekeeping, including violations of fiduciary duties and contractual obligations, according to reports.

Breach still pending verification

The data breach is still pending detailed verification, and if the report comes out to be true, then this could be one of the biggest data leaks reported across the world, surpassing the 2013 Yahoo breach which compromised data from about 3 billion users. This itself shows the fact that technology, even though improved, has still not been able to safekeep private data and maintain cybersecurity.
