Anora: Oscar-winning film’s streaming, home release, storyline and cast

The Oscar-winning film Anora will be available for streaming on Hulu on March 17. The movie, directed by Sean Baker, won five Academy Awards and received recognition at various film festivals. After its successful theatrical release, the film is now set for digital and physical distribution.

On March 2, Anora won five Oscars out of six nominations. The film received awards for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Editing, Best Original Screenplay and Best Actress. Madison won Best Actress for playing the title role. The only category where Anora did not win was Best Supporting Actor. Borisov lost to Kieran Culkin in that category.

Anora was in competition with The Brutalist, A Complete Unknown, Conclave, Dune: Part Two, Emilia Pérez, I'm Still Here, Nickel Boys, The Substance, and Wicked for Best Picture. Baker’s multiple wins matched Walt Disney’s 1954 record for most Oscar wins in a single night.

Streaming and Home Release

Hulu will start streaming Anora on March 17. The film will later be available on 4K and Blu-ray through Criterion. The home release will include additional features. Criterion announced the movie’s physical release shortly after its theatrical run.

Box Office Performance

Neon released Anora in U.S. theaters on October 18, 2024. The film performed well at the box office, earning over $41 million globally. It had a budget of $6 million, making it Baker’s highest-grossing film.

Storyline and Cast

Anora follows a 23-year-old stripper named Anora Mikheeva. She lives in Brighton Beach, a Russian-American neighborhood in Brooklyn. She meets and later marries Ivan "Vanya" Zakharov, the son of a Russian oligarch. Her life takes an unexpected turn after the marriage.

Mikey Madison plays Anora. Mark Eydelshteyn portrays Ivan. Other cast members include Yura Borisov, Karren Karagulian, Vache Tovmasyan, Darya Ekamasova, and Aleksei Serebryakov.
