Anne Hathaway has traded her signature long waves for a dramatically shorter look, unveiling a sharp pixie cut that has quickly drawn attention in a new Vogue China photoshoot. The Odyssey actress appears on the magazine's latest cover in a crisp white blazer with black piping, while her new hairstyle lends the fashion shoot a distinctly punk-inspired edge. Her familiar extra-long, mermaid-style waves are nowhere to be seen. Instead, Hathaway sports a cropped pixie with textured layers and sweeping bangs.

The transformation comes during an especially busy period for the actress, who has spent much of the summer in the spotlight while promoting several major projects.

Anne Hathaway's new pixie cut brings back a familiar era

Hathaway's cropped hairstyle has sparked comparisons with one of the most recognizable looks of her career. During the 2012 release of Les Misérables, Hathaway famously shaved her head for her role as Fantine. After filming, her hair gradually grew back into a pixie style, which she wore for parts of 2012 and 2013.

Her latest look, therefore, offers a striking throwback, although it remains unclear whether the dramatic chop is permanent or whether Hathaway is wearing a wig for the fashion shoot.

The actress has spent recent months favoring much longer hair, making the sudden appearance of the short, heavily layered style all the more dramatic.

A fashion shoot packed with bold looks

Hathaway's transformation was showcased across a series of striking outfits in the photoshoot. The Instagram photoshoot features the actress moving between dramatically different styles, including a bright red dress paired with red latex gloves, a playful purple blazer and a structured black suit.

The cropped hairstyle becomes part of the shoot's visual identity as Hathaway poses and moves, her short hair blowing in the wind.

The result is a noticeably edgier image than the ultra-long, softly waved hairstyle she has been wearing during much of her recent promotional appearances.

The hairstyle reveal comes as Hathaway juggles several high-profile projects. She is currently promoting The Odyssey, while also generating attention around The End of Oak Street and the upcoming Princess Diaries 3.

That packed schedule has kept the actress on multiple red carpets and press tours, giving fans plenty of opportunities to see her experiment with different fashion and beauty looks.

Anne Hathaway is expecting her third child

The dramatic hairstyle reveal also comes during a major personal milestone for Hathaway. The actress announced in June that she is expecting her third child. She shared the news of her pregnancy shortly after the press tour for The Devil Wears Prada 2, posting a video revealing her growing baby bump.
