Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese has been suspended for one game by the WNBA after receiving her eighth technical foul of the season. The rookie standout will sit out Friday’s matchup against the Indiana Fever. Reese’s latest technical came late in the first half of Wednesday’s 88-64 victory over Connecticut, when she struck Aaliyah Edwards in the head while battling for a rebound.

Under league rules, players are automatically suspended for one game after accruing eight technical fouls in the regular season, and again for every two additional technicals thereafter. Before the suspension, Reese posted 18 points and 13 rebounds for her 23rd double-double of the year, helping the Sky snap a four-game losing streak.

The 22-year-old had recently expressed frustration with the direction of the franchise, telling the Chicago Tribune she 'might have to move in a different direction' if things don’t improve, though she later apologised to her teammates and softened those remarks.

Reese, the No. 7 pick in last year’s WNBA draft and a two-time All-Star, is averaging 14.7 points and a league-leading 12.6 rebounds per game. She remains under contract with Chicago for at least one more season.
