The 36-year-old former professional kickboxer has had four requests to be released from custody rejected. The latest court decision means he will remain in detention until at least March 29. Tate's spokesperson said his legal team will appeal this decision within the 48-hour time frame.
The authorities in Romania have seized money and goods worth almost £3.25 million from Tate's villa, which includes luxury cars. Tate has also repeatedly claimed Romanian prosecutors have no evidence and alleged that their case is a "political" conspiracy, which has been designed to silence him. However, Romania's anti-organized crime agency DIICOT said it had identified six victims in the human trafficking case who were allegedly subjected to "acts of physical violence and mental coercion" and “sexually exploited by members of the alleged group”. The victims were lured with pretenses of love, but were intimidated later. They were also placed under surveillance and subjected to other control tactics. Not just this, they were also coerced into engaging in pornographic acts for the crime group’s financial gains, the agency said.
Tate, who has 5.3 million followers on Twitter, was previously banned from various prominent social media platforms for expressing misogynistic views and hate speech. Tate's brother Tristan will have a fresh bail appeal hearing on Wednesday.
