Trump wants to see Canada as 51st State, but not interested in annexing country
When President Trump was asked what concessions Canada could offer the United States in order to escape tariffs, he simply replied saying that what he would like is to see Canada becoming the 51st state of the US. Trump even downplayed the economic partnership between both countries which sees gigantic volumes of trade each year. However, Trump said the US does not require Canada’s lumber or automobile production, and they can suffice for themselves.
Trump also said that they do not need Canada, but if they come in as a state, that is a different case. Moreover, tariffs would also not be in play if Canada agrees to become a US state, according to The Hill.
