Amid Covid vaccine success, BioNTech plans to return €2bn to shareholders

After the success of the covid vaccine, BioNTech is planning to return €2bn to shareholders. BioNTech will continue the clinical trial to boost protection against the Omicron variant.

On Wednesday, the German company BioNTech promised to return around €2 billion to its shareholders via share buybucks and a special dividend. After its raging Covid-19 vaccine success in the year 2021 with the company Pfizer, the company had earned a lot of revenue. In one year, the company earned €18.9 billion in revenue alone. This marks a huge success compared to the revenue of 2020, which was €482.3 million.

The company has also exceeded the expectations of analysts' earnings forecasts. While experts estimated that the company's profit in the fourth quarter would be around €8.2 per share, BioNTech managed to secure €12.2 per share.

BioNTech has planned to deliver more than 2.4 billion vaccines this year, resulting in more than €17 billion. It also plans to buy €1.5 billion of its shares and intends to propose a special cash dividend of €2 a share in its yearly meeting.

  • A new clinical trial for the Omicron variant of Covid-19 will expand. The new vaccine will provide boosted protection against the new variant. The data is said to be published in April.
