She attempted to enter San Diego, where her lawyer resided, in order to renew her work visa. ICE detained her instead of allowing her access, which she calls a "deeply disturbing psychological experiment."

What did she experience in detention?

She described sleeping wrapped in foil for days and being shackled for a midnight transfer.

“I was placed in a cell and forced to spend two and a half days sleeping on a mat without a pillow or blanket, with aluminum foil wrapped around my body like a corpse, Mooney told KGTV 10 in San Diego. "Never in my life have I witnessed anything so cruel," as quoted in a report by Variety.

Jasmine Mooney said she lost "a lot of weight" because she refused to eat the food at the Otay Mesa Detention Center because it was of such poor quality.

In one instance, she continued, she and thirty other women were transferred to a facility in Arizona in the middle of the night. She was compelled to remain "up for 24 hours wrapped in chains" throughout the experience.

How did she finally get released?

Mooney returned to Canada after receiving a lot of media attention, but she still doesn't know why she was detained. "I still don't even know how I'm home," she told news outlets on Saturday after landing back at Vancouver International Airport.

Although the precise cause of her arrest is unknown, some people theorize that it may have been related to her affiliation with Holy! Water, a company that sells "full-spectrum hemp" drinks and of which Mooney is a co-founder.
