American baseball pitcher Adam Ottavino recently inked a deal with the professional baseball team New York Mets, thus reuniting the seasoned player with the team. He had signed a one-year deal with the team in March 2022 earlier for $4 million.

There is also a provision for incentives of up to $1 million and an option for opt-out in the agreement, after next season. With this contract, the offseason spending of the Mets has reached $476.1 and the competitive balance payroll of the team has gone up to $446 million due to an additional tax bill of around $88 million. This payroll is the highest-ever in MLB payroll history and $100 million higher than the last highest payroll.
Ottavino is one of the most persevering relief pitchers and has regularly appeared in high-leverage situations for the Mets team. He has emerged as a specialist against right-handed hitters and has had a 3.44 ERA in 625.1 innings pitched, with 727 strikeouts, 274 walks and a well-below-average home run rate in over 12 seasons.
The Mets also signed other pitchers including Justin Verlander for $86.6 million, Kodai Senga for $75 million and Jose Quintana for $26 million.
