American Airlines loses lawsuit against mother of twin infants over 'harassment' by flight attendant

American Airlines was sued by a female passenger and the woman won $3,500 in claim settlement against the airline company.

A woman achieved a $3,500 settlement in claims case against American Airlines on Friday, citing "breach of contract" and "negligent infliction of emotional distress." The complainant, a lawyer from Oregon, alleged harassment by a flight attendant regarding the seating arrangements for her twin infants during a flight.

Erika Hamilton embarked on a February flight with her 18-month-old twin daughters. They were traveling from Portland to Tallahassee, Florida, with a layover in Dallas, as outlined in the complaint submitted to the Circuit Court of the State of Oregon for the County of Multnomah.

Hamilton detailed in her complaint how she had purchased tickets in accordance with American Airlines' policy at the time. Her arrangement included one daughter sitting in her lap and the other occupying a separate seat.


Meanwhile, in December, a baggage handler for American Airlines subsidiary Piedmont Airlines in Montgomery, Alabama, died when she walked in front of a running jet engine and was pulled into the fan blades. In April, an American Airlines employee died after driving a service vehicle that struck a jet bridge, as per an AP report.

A vehicle fatally struck a person on the tarmac of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, officials said on Tuesday, the second fatal incident this year involving a worker at the airport in the Texas capital. The person was identified as an airport employee but authorities did not immediately release details about how the collision on Tuesday occurred. Firefighters and police responded to the scene, according to Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services, as per the AP report/.

The airport said in a statement that flights were not impacted. During the busy summer months, the airport had more than 2 million monthly passengers. The Austin Police Department said in an email that the investigation was ongoing and no other details were available.
