Amazon settlement payments 2026: Who qualifies for up to $200 and when will eligible Prime customers get paid?
Amazon is preparing to send another round of payments to consumers affected by its Prime enrollment and cancellation practices. The payments are part of a $2.5 billion settlement reached with the Federal Trade Commission in 2025. The FTC said Amaz...

Amazon Prime customers could receive additional settlement payments as the FTC expands eligibility and raises the maximum refund to $200.
The distributions stem from an updated court order that expands a $2.5 billion federal settlement originally reached in September 2025. The Federal Trade Commission sued Amazon after finding the retailer enrolled millions of shoppers into recurring Prime memberships without clear consent. It also created complex navigation pathways to prevent them from cancelling.
The initial deal imposed a $1 billion civil penalty on Amazon and allocated $1.5 billion toward direct consumer restitution. Through September 2026, Amazon had paid out more than $845 million from that restitution pool.
Following a joint filing by the FTC and Amazon, a federal court approved new terms designed to accelerate remaining funds and broaden eligibility.
Amazon settlement payments are starting. Here’s who may qualify for up to $200
The settlement followed allegations that Amazon enrolled millions of people in Prime without their consent and made the cancellation process unnecessarily difficult.Under the original agreement, Amazon agreed to provide up to $1.5 billion in consumer refunds. It also agreed to pay a separate $1 billion civil penalty.
The settlement was approved in 2025. A federal court later approved changes that allow payments to reach more consumers.
The original refund rules covered consumers who used fewer than 10 Prime benefits during a one-year period.
The revised order expands eligibility to another group: consumers who used between 11 and 20 Prime benefits during a one-year period.
Under the new arrangement, they can begin receiving automatic payments from Oct. 1, 2026. The change also raises the maximum total payment from $51 to $200.
Do you need to file a claim?
The FTC says eligible consumers don't need to submit a new claim or complete additional paperwork to receive future payments. That's different from many class-action settlements, where consumers have to file a form before a deadline. For this Amazon settlement, the payments are being distributed automatically to people who meet the applicable criteria.
Consumers should therefore be cautious about messages asking them to pay a fee or provide unnecessary information to receive the settlement money.
How will Amazon send the money?
The payments will be delivered electronically through Venmo or PayPal, or by mailed check.Consumers don't have to respond to a notice or fill out a new form simply to qualify for the automatic payment.
The payment method means recipients should pay attention to legitimate communications connected with the settlement, particularly if they previously received money through the program.
The original arrangement allowed payments of up to $51. Under the revised order, the maximum total payment can reach $200 for consumers who qualify for the additional amount.
There is another stage to the payment process.
If the required threshold of accepted payments hasn't been reached by February 2027, Amazon will make additional automatic payments to consumers who already received refunds.
Those supplemental payments are expected to begin by April 2027. Consumers who have already accepted payments could receive as much as another $149, bringing their total settlement payment to $200.
