Amazon has introduced a new development by incorporating advertisements into Prime Video for users in the US. Viewers who wish to enjoy an ad-free experience can opt for this feature at an extra cost of $2.99 per month.

To access an ad-free streaming experience on Prime Video, American users are now required to pay a monthly fee of $2.99, in addition to either the $14.99 monthly charge for a comprehensive Prime membership or the $8.99 standalone fee for Prime Video.

This change was implemented around four months after Amazon initially hinted at the introduction of such a fee. Additionally, users in other countries are also anticipated to encounter advertisements in the near future.


Amazon's 200 million Prime members pay $14.99 per month or $139 annually for free shipping in a day or two, and with Buy With Prime, launched in April 2022, merchants can extend the shipping offer to those Prime customers.

The strategy is simple: use its existing infrastructure to handle packages and orders that aren't placed on Amazon itself in order to generate additional fee revenue for its seller services, which is a high-margin business.

Amazon collects 3 per cent service fees on each Buy With Prime order, with additional payments for fulfillment and payment processing.
