Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos blasted a Carnegie Mellon University associate professor for wishing an 'excruciating' death for Queen Elizabeth II after the U.K.'s longest-reigning queen died on Thursday. So, Bezos, referencing a tweet from Uju Anya that insulted the queen asked whether this person was striving to make the world a better place which he did not think.
Twitter quickly deleted Anya's message, claiming it violated platform regulations. However, immediately after Bezos' tweet, Anya retaliated by slamming him for his "merciless greed" and refusing to apologize.
This is someone supposedly working to make the world better? I don’t think so. Wow. https://t.co/2zoi6CdFMq
Anya, who began her career at Carnegie Mellon in 2021, was born in Nigeria, which gained independence from the United Kingdom in 1960 as part of the Queen's dominion.
Anya's institution condemned her tweet, saying they do not forgive the objectionable and offensive things posted by Uju Anya today on her social media account. Free expression is core to the mission of higher education, but the views she shared do not represent the institution's values, nor the standards of discourse we seek to foster.
