He wrote on X, “WR Amari Cooper has informed the team that he no longer has the desire to play and intends to retire…”, adding, “Cooper had signed at the end of camp in a hopeful reunion with the team that drafted. Now, he’s headed home from Las Vegas.”
Cooper was traded to the Browns before the 2022 season, and during his two years in Cleveland, he built an impressive resume. Not only did Cooper earn two Pro Bowl selections while wearing the brown and orange, but he also set the franchise's single-game receiving yards record in 2023. In that game, he recorded 265 yards and two touchdowns on 11 catches.

On August 1, 2025, online fans saw a post from a parody account claiming that Cooper had retired. Todd Archer, who reports on Cowboys news for ESPN, retweeted the post, helping it reach over 250,000 views in under four hours.
Amari Cooper, originally from Alabama, was born on June 17, 1994. He was selected fourth overall by the Raiders in the 2015 NFL Draft.
Over his career, he played for the Raiders, Cowboys, and Browns, achieving seven 1,000-yard seasons and earning five Pro Bowl selections. In October 2024, he moved from the Browns to the Buffalo Bills before reuniting with the team that had originally drafted him.
