The American eighth seed, who suffered a crushing 6-0, 6-0 loss to Swiatek in the Wimbledon final less than two months ago, rose to the occasion at Arthur Ashe Stadium. Backed by a raucous home crowd, she delivered some of her finest tennis to turn the tables on the six-time Grand Slam champion.

"I've been having the run of my life here," said Anisimova in her on-court interview.

"The first day I got here I was like 'OK, let's try and get through one round... This has been such a dream. To come back from Wimbledon like that is really special to me."

Anisimova, set to meet two-time US Open champion Naomi Osaka in Thursday’s semifinals, admitted she prepared for her quarter-final rematch by revisiting the replay of her painful Wimbledon loss.

"Last night -- nobody told me to -- but I watched (it) back, as painful as it was, just to see, like, what I can avoid or what went wrong," Anisimova said. "Then after I had to watch some good highlights to remove that from my brain.

"It was important for me to see what happened going into today's match."
