Thomas, who became the first WNBA player with three straight triple-double, finished with 18 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists, capping her performance with a feed to DeWanna Bonner for a 3-pointer late in the fourth quarter. Bonner poured in a season-high 23 points as the Mercury rolled to their third straight win.
Thomas, who had triple-doubles in her previous two games against the Chicago Sky and Connecticut Sun, left the game to chants of “MVP” from the Phoenix crowd. Satou Sabally added 15 points and eight rebounds, while Kahleah Copper chipped in 11 points in a game where Phoenix led from start to finish.
Indiana’s Sophie Cunningham, returning to Phoenix after six seasons with the Mercury, scored a season-best 18 points. However, the Fever’s top scorers struggled mightily.
Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston combined for just 16 points on 5-of-23 shooting. Boston, who didn’t make a field goal until the fourth quarter, ended with four points and nine rebounds.
Phoenix broke the game open with a 14-0 third-quarter run, turning a nine-point lead into a 73-47 advantage. The Mercury eventually stretched the margin to as many as 36 in the fourth.
Fever All-Star Caitlin Clark missed her ninth straight game with a groin injury. The team is 9-9 without her this season. Indiana also lost forward Sydney Colson to a knee injury in the first quarter and she did not return.
