Alex Vesia mourns infant daughter, here’s everything we know about the cause of death and family’s heartbreaking loss

Alex Vesia, the left‑handed reliever for the Los Angeles Dodgers, and his wife, Kayla Vesia, announced on Friday that their infant daughter, Sterling Sol Vesia, died on Sunday, Oct. 26, a tragedy that occurred during the team’s World Series run and explains his absence from the Fall Classic roster.

In a joint Instagram post, the couple wrote:

“Our little angel we love you forever & you’re with us always. Our beautiful daughter went to heaven Sunday October 26th. There are no words to describe the pain we’re going through but we hold her in our hearts and cherish every second we had with her.”


They also expressed deep gratitude to the medical staff at Cedars‑Sinai Medical Center who helped Kayla and Sterling, and thanked the Dodgers, the Toronto Blue Jays organization and baseball fans for their support.

Cause of death

The family did not share details about the cause of Sterling’s death. Although according to People website, many have referenced the term “stillbirth,” but no official medical statement has confirmed this.

Vesia was omitted from the Dodgers’ World Series roster ahead of Game 1, with the club citing a “deeply personal family matter.” Teammates and rivals alike showed solidarity: Dodgers relievers wore his No. 51 on their caps during Game 3, and the Blue Jays bullpen followed suit in Game 6.

In the 2025 regular season, Vesia went 4‑2 with a 3.02 ERA in 68 appearances, and in the postseason before the Series, he logged two wins and a 3.86 ERA over seven outings. Since joining the Dodgers in a 2021 trade from the Miami Marlins, he has become a trusted member of their bullpen.
