Alex Singleton reveals cancer diagnosis after successful surgery - All you need to know; Broncos star says, 'Can't wait to get back on the field'

Denver Broncos linebacker Alex Singleton has revealed that he was recently diagnosed with testicular cancer but has undergone successful surgery and is now recovering well. Singleton shared the news via social media platform X to express gratitude for the support of his wife, Broncos family and doctors throughout his treatment. The 30-year-old said he expects to make a full recovery and plans to return to football soon, emphasizing the importance of regular health checkups and proactive care for early cancer detection. Singleton ended his X post stating, "Can't wait to get back on the field."


"I think cancer's a scary word," Singleton said Monday as quoted by Broncos' official site. "It still is. It still freaks me out, even just saying it. Just to know that attacking it with a positive mindset is the best way to do it. My teammates, this organization, my family have been just so great and will continue to be."


Singleton was diagnosed on Monday (November 3) after a routine NFL drug test revealed abnormal indicators, leading to further medical evaluations. The veteran linebacker unknowingly played in Denver’s Week 9 victory over the Texans despite elevated hCG levels. By the time he was preparing for the Broncos’ Week 10 'Thursday Night Football' matchup against the Raiders, Singleton had already been informed of his testicular cancer diagnosis.

"It was an interesting week of emotions for me," Singleton said. "I found out about the drug test the Wednesday before Houston. There was a lot weighing on me going into even that game, knowing that I wasn't taking hCG, this protein that my body had in it. I was almost as scared going into that game, because at that time it was just my wife [Sam] and my agent [Paul Sheehy] who had known about this. On Monday, when I finally got these results, it was not freeing for me but... for me, just with anything in life, I would rather know a game plan and know the steps moving forward to be able to attack that than anything else."

After the Raiders game the previous night, in which he played all 60 defensive snaps, Singleton underwent surgery on Friday. He shared that a pre-surgery CT scan confirmed the cancer had not spread to other parts of his body. Singleton is now waiting for the pathology report to determine the next steps in his recovery process.

The veteran linebacker confirmed he will miss the Week 11 game against the Kanas City Chiefs but expressed optimism about his recovery, saying he expects to “bounce back quickly from surgery and be up and running again soon.”
