Alex Murdaugh case, trial update: Ex-South Carolina attorney found guilty of murdering son, wife, sentencing on Friday

Alex Murdaugh has been found guilty of murdering his wife and son. The jury in the double murder trial of Alex Murdaugh convicted him on Thursday. 54-year-old Murdaugh is a former South Carolina attorney and scion of affluent family of local solicitors and lawyers.

Murdaugh was convicted and found guilty of two counts that include possession of a weapon and murder of Paul Murdaugh and Margaret 'Maggie' Murdaugh on June 7, 2021 at Murdaugh's property Moselle in Islandton, South Carolina.

Sentencing procedure by Judge Clifton Newman is scheduled at 9.30 am (local time) on Friday.


Prosecutors may seek life imprisonment without provision of parole but death penalty may not considered, as per a report in CNN.

Murdaugh has a son Buster Murdaugh who is alive. Murdaugh, who was placed in handcuffs, apparently said "I love You" to son Buster Murdaugh.

The verdict was out after six-week trial that saw emergence of brutal evidence.

Murdaugh’s defense team tried to defend him by shifting blame on the investigation procedure of the law enforcement department. However, the defence's allegations about wrongdoings were strongly rejected.

During the three-week of testimony as many as 61 witnesses were called. The case hogged limelight including documentaries by HBO Max and Netflix.
